Bespak is looking for a permanent, Principal Development Scientist on the Holmes Chapel site, CW4 8BE. The salary range for this role is between £47,000 and £55,500. Other benefits you will receive are 25 days leave plus bank holidays, discretionary annual bonus, generous 10% pension contribution, onsite free parking, and medical / dental / health / life assurance.

Working Pattern – Monday to Friday (8:00 am to 4:00 pm) There is some flexibility on start and finish times and we are happy to discuss hybrid working options.

As a Principal Development Scientist, you will be a key scientific expert within our Drug Product Development team, focusing on complex inhalation products from initial stages through to commercialization. You'll define, characterize, and optimize formulations and scale-up processes, to support new product development for internal and client’s projects. Part of your role will involve providing scientific input for new business opportunities and leading projects to drive product and process improvements. You will also play a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting the wider organization with your technical expertise. Your contributions will be pivotal in delivering effective, efficient, and compliant drug products.

Bespak in Holmes Chapel is an Investors in People Silver Award-winning pharmaceutical CDMO with over 350 employees, currently going through a period of significant site expansion. We are investing heavily to increase our capacity for developing and manufacturing sustainable pMDIs (asthma inhalers) with greener propellants, meeting the evolving standards of the industry, while providing comprehensive development, manufacturing, filling, and finishing solutions for a range of medical devices, including SMIs, DPIs, nasal sprays, and medical check valves.

As a Principal Development Scientist your duties will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of complex inhalation product development from formulation to commercialization.

  • Providing scientific input for customer quotations to win new business.

  • Working with suppliers and third parties to source and characterise materials and set specifications

  • Identifying and leading projects for product and process improvements.

  • Ensuring product development meets high standards of effectiveness and compliance.

  • Developing and optimizing combination product formulations for stability and safety.

  • Troubleshooting complex technical problems within product development.

    Principal Development Scientist, beneficial key skills and experience:

  • A relevant qualification in science or a related discipline.

  • Significant technical experience in pharmaceutical development, ideally inhalation.

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical product manufacturing processes and systems.

  • Proven practical and technical problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Competent in statistical data analysis for product and process development.

  • Ability to clearly present technical data to various audiences.

    Holmes Chapel is a beautiful village in Cheshire with excellent transport links via its railway station on the Crewe-Manchester Line, proximity to the motorway network and Manchester Airport. The National Parks of the Peak District, Lake District and Eryri (Snowdonia) are within easy reach. The village has a population of nearly 7,000 and offers various amenities, including supermarkets, shops, restaurants, schools, and a GP practice.

    This could suit someone who has experience as a Senior Formulation Scientist, Lead Product Development Scientist, Technical Lead, or a Principal Development Scientist.
