To support the pharmaceutical service and the medicines management agenda in the UHB.

To act as an accredited checking Pharmacy Technician (ACT).

To undertake the role of an accredited Medicine Management Pharmacy Technician.

To work within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be guided by professional good practice guidelines.

To work as part of a team and also work independently and using own initiative to deal with problems, enquiries and urgent requests referring to the senior pharmacy technician or a pharmacist if necessary.

To use professional judgement to make appropriate decisions based on evaluating facts and options e.g. supply problems with urgent items.

To act as an accredited checking Pharmacy Technician undertaking the final check and release of prescriptions dispensed by other pharmacy staff.

To dispense and issue prescriptions, providing advice and information on medicines to patients, carers and nursing staff.

To participate in the ward-based medicines management service, assessing medicines, organising supplies and giving advice to patients.

To support the pharmacy logistics service in providing safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.

To participate in pharmacy services on weekend/public holiday rotas.

To participate in the training and supervision of pharmacy assistants, student Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy students.
