The Packaging Manager oversees all packaging operations within the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, ensuring that products are packaged efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with GMP, regulatory requirements, and company standards.

This role involves managing multiple shift operations and providing direct supervision to the Packaging Administrator, Packaging Coordinator, and Packaging Operators. It requires a strong focus on planning, cycle time optimization, and resource management to maximize equipment utilization and maintain operational effectiveness.


Role


•Plan, coordinate, and manage daily packaging operations to meet production targets. Work closely with other production groups and related functional supporting departments eg. Supply Chain, Engineering, HR and QA, to ensure that activities are managed in an effective and synchronized manner, making best use of all resources.


•Work closely with other Production Managers within the group on strategic planning and management of longer-term issues, typically extending out to periods of up to one year with the major focus being within the first six months of any period. An example of this would include management of facility changes or developments.


•Provide leadership, motivation and development opportunities for all members of operational staff by implementing effective training and appraisal processes. This will involve use of higher-level personnel orientated competencies such as coaching etc. as well as direct training itself. Liaises with other members of the first line management team to achieve this. Development of personnel is agreed in line with PMP system which is administered by the incumbent.


•Promotes and develops a culture of continuous improvement in all areas of the business operation by driving programmes which highlight opportunities and promote change in a controlled manner. This will focus on key business improvement goals as well as maintaining and improving compliance in SHE and QO aspects. Collation and analysis of area performance data is performed and presented to help guide improvement activities. Also responsible for writing trial protocols to allow improvement processes involving equipment/systems etc. to proceed and following up to ensure closure through establishing revised procedures.


•Work closely with Quality to ensure that operations are in constant compliance with company and regulatory requirements. If unplanned deviations do occur, the Packaging Production Manager must act swiftly to agree corrective action with Quality and implement the same. This will involve investigation and reporting of issues with follow up through Material Review. Procedures / practices etc. will be revised to ensure that the operation is improved to prevent recurrence.


•Establish acceptable standards of behaviour and performance for the operations and work closely all personnel to ensure that these are applied. This will involve timely resolution of any issues arising within the group.


•Ensures that all staff are fully aware of site issues by monthly briefings and general management topics


•Responsible for designated roles within the department or site wide projects as agreed with the departmental Leader.



RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:


• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in pharmaceutical packaging desirable, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

• Strong knowledge of GMP, regulatory compliance, and pharmaceutical packaging operations.

• Familiarity with serialization, labeling, and tamper-evident packaging requirements.

• Experience with packaging automation and equipment validation.
