Operational Technology Support Engineer

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Digital and Innovation, the Operational Technology Support Engineer will be primarily responsible for the provision of technical support and low code solution support. As an Operational Technology Support Engineer, you will play a crucial role in understanding, troubleshooting, and enhancing the performance of various platforms utilised within the operational environment. Additionally, you will be responsible for interacting with individuals who may have limited technical experience and understanding, providing them with the necessary support to effectively utilise these applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users across UK-wide operational sites regarding operational technology applications, low code platforms, MS Azure applications, SQL-based solutions and other relevant tools.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of operational technology applications, proactively identifying and resolving issues as well as identifying areas for improvement and implementing appropriate enhancements.
  • Understand and analyse user requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including user guides, FAQs, and troubleshooting manuals, to facilitate user understanding and self-help resources.
  • Perform rigorous testing of OT applications and updates to ensure stability, security, and compliance with functional requirements and operational standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including third party development partners, system administrators, and project managers, to ensure smooth integration and optimal performance of operational technology applications.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for users with limited technical experience, explaining the functionalities and best practices of the supported applications.
  • Work with operational teams proactively to facilitate upskilling and support citizen development capability.
  • Serve as a liaison between end-users, technical development team and digital leadership team, communicating feedback, bug reports, and enhancement requests to facilitate the application development process.
  • Demonstrate passion for technology by staying up to date with emerging trends and advancements in applicable platforms and actively contribute to the promotion of digitalisation and innovation, sharing insights and best practices within the team and with the wider business.
  • Enthusiastic presentation and demonstration of digital solutions to internal stakeholders, as well as our customers.
  • The ability to work in a hybrid fashion with a multi-national team.
  • Be able to work effectively on tasks, both individually and collaboratively.
  • A clear communicator who is articulate and can understand requirements and be active in discussions.
  • Effectively manage time, prioritise tasks, self-review your work and produce deliverables.

  • Clear and concise documentation skills, with the ability to accurately record support procedures, troubleshooting steps, and maintain a structured knowledge base.
  • Adaptability and a proactive mindset, with a willingness to embrace change, learn new technologies, and continuously improve processes.
  • Experience within an operational / engineering environment is desirable.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving settings, maintaining focus and quality under pressure.
  • Demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for digital solutions and innovation, with a drive to promote their benefits across the business.
  • Training and facilitation skills, including the ability to lead workshops and upskill users with varying levels of technical experience.



Desired Experience:

Experience of some or all of the following is desirable:

  • Low Code Platforms (e.g. Power Platform, for mobile and web-based applicaitons)
  • SQL-based solutions (including databases, SSIS packages, scheduled jobs, and custom scripts)
  • MS Azure applications (e.g. app services, logic apps, application insights & monitor, DevOps pipelines)
  • Dashboard Reporting Technology (e.g. Power BI, and familiarity with data modelling, DAX and visualisation best practices)
  • Proven experience in providing technical support and troubleshooting for operational technology applications.
  • Understanding of coding principles and debugging techniques, with the ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot scripts or application logic (e.g. PowerShell, JavaScript, or low-code expressions).
  • A Degree or HND/HNC in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant discipline or suitable equivalent experience.
