Job Description Laboratory Research Scientist in theImmunoSurveillance Lab Reports to: Adrian Hayday Contact term: Thisis a full-time, fixed term position for up to 12 months on Crickterms and conditions of employment. Summary A position isimmediately available for a fixed-term Laboratory ResearchScientist (LRS) in the ImmunoSurveillance laboratory, headed byProfessor Adrian Hayday. The lab is located at The Francis CrickInstitute in London and focuses on investigating tissue-associatedT cells and their contributions to protection against epithelialperturbations that characterise inflammatory diseases and cancers. The post holder will work under the supervision of Professor Haydayand Dr Vivien Kohlhaas, providing experimental support in astate-of-the-art model system study seeking to dissect how thedysregulation of local intestinal T cells may combine with altereddiet to provoke gut inflammation. The hypothesis that this may bean important axis in inflammatory bowel disease, and potentially incolorectal cancer, is fuelled by epidemiologic data and our owngenetic and imunological studies of human patients. The idealcandidate is likely to be a pro-active, focused and productiveindividual, motivated by the development and study of a modelsystem to better understand complex human disease. They will alsobe motivated by the collegial and collaborative work environment, that uses a team ethic to nurture and promote individualexcellence. Excellent time management, communication, attention todetail and organisation skills are essential. The Research GroupProfessor Hayday’s laboratory discovered specific proteinsexpressed by epithelial cells that regulate the composition andactivity of gamma delta T cells that naturally populate bodysurfaces in model animals and in humans. His team is responsiblefor the 'Lymphoid Stress Surveillance' hypothesis (PMID) that hasmore recently led to the concept of “normality sensing” (PMID).These concepts describe how tissue-associated T cells recognise andrespond rapidly to perturbations of epithelial cells that may occurin response to infection or physical and/or chemical stress.Although under-explored, this biology appears fundamental, beingconserved as far back as jawless (agnathan) vertebrates. Moreover, the group has provided substantial scientific evidence that thisbiology can in humans make significant contributions to tumoursurveillance and to protection against severe forms of inflammatorybowel disease. How to Get a Better Biotechnology Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Being made redundant from a biotechnology role can come as a shock, especially when your work involves complex research, innovation, and long development cycles. Whether due to funding cuts, mergers, shifting priorities in pharma or medtech, or economic turbulence, redundancies in biotech are becoming more common. But this doesn’t have to be the end of your career trajectory. In fact, many professionals go on to find better, more rewarding roles after a redundancy. With the UK’s biotech sector still growing rapidly across life sciences, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, biomanufacturing, and synthetic biology, new opportunities are emerging every day. This guide will help you bounce back with purpose. From mental reset and CV refresh to recruiter outreach and sector-specific job search tips, here’s how to turn redundancy into a career upgrade.

Biotech Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Pinpoint Your True Worth in the UK Life‑Sciences Market

Why yesterday’s salary guide won’t cut it in today’s biotech landscape “Could I earn more elsewhere?” Every life‑sciences professional has whispered that question—perhaps after seeing a colleague jump to a new start‑up for a chunky raise, or hearing that a peer at a rival pharma company pocketed a surprise bonus. Yet finding a credible benchmark in biotechnology is harder than ever. The sector morphs daily: gene‑therapy breakthroughs spawn new manufacturing lines, government funds pour into north‑of‑England cell‑&‑gene hubs, & Covid‑era mRNA expertise now permeates vaccine, oncology, & even agritech pipelines. Pay bands move with each development; a salary survey printed last year is already a museum piece. To clear the fog, BiotechnologyJobs.co.uk has reverse‑engineered a straightforward, three‑factor formula that estimates an accurate 2025 salary for UK‑based biotech professionals in seconds.
