Medical Scientific Liaison – Nephrology & Rare Diseases (UK & Ireland)

Overview:

This is a field-based medical role, responsible for supporting healthcare professionals with high-quality, non-promotional scientific and clinical information. The position plays a vital role in executing the regional medical strategy across the UK and Ireland, in alignment with relevant ethical and industry standards.

Collaboration is central to the role, requiring regular interaction with internal teams such as medical affairs, commercial, patient access, marketing, regulatory, and drug safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the field-based scientific expert in nephrology and rare diseases, delivering medical education and gathering clinical insights from healthcare professionals (HCPs).
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), medical experts, and stakeholders (with approximately 75% of responsibilities focused externally).
  • Provide field-based insights to internal teams using appropriate reporting tools.
  • Contribute to key account planning and cross-functional team discussions.
  • Support medical information requests and provide scientific training to field-based commercial and patient access colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Medical Advisor to execute the regional medical plan, including clinical trials (Phases 3 and 4), investigator-initiated studies, and post-marketing research.
  • Review promotional and educational materials to ensure medical accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in managing clinical research and educational grant activities.
  • Represent the organization at congresses, symposia, and other scientific events.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of field activity, ensuring compliance with regulations and company procedures.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities for process and strategy improvement.

Requirements:

  • Degree in a relevant scientific or healthcare field (e.g., medicine, pharmacy, life sciences). APhD is preffered
  • MUSThave3 years in Medical Science Liaison role within the UK healthcare system.
  • MUSThave Nephrology experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and developing KOL relationships.
  • In-depth understanding of UK and Irish compliance and medical governance frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
  • Proven interpersonal and networking abilities, both externally and internally.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to professional and regulatory compliance.

Preferred Experience:

  • additional experience in rare disease therapy areas.
  • Experience with clinical trials and medical affairs project delivery.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a broader team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

Additional Information:

  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Full UK driving license required.
  • Willingness to travel 3–4 days per week.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM systems.
