Medical Director, UK - Rare Diseases


About the Role:

Join our client in bringing a life-changing treatment for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) and other rare diseases to market in the UK. This dynamic and collaborative environment is perfect for an MD with a passion for medical affairs and rare diseases.


Role Overview:

IQVIA is seeking a highly skilled and motivated UK Medical Director to lead pre-launch medical engagement activities for a groundbreaking OI treatment. You will develop and execute the UK medical affairs plan, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the UK medical affairs plan, focusing on pre-launch activities for OI.
  • Map OI treatment centers, identify key hubs and spokes, and collaborate with the Country Patient Access Lead to gather insights into patient numbers, treatment pathways, and the OI landscape.
  • Conduct field scientific interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs) ensuring compliance with local regulations and guidelines.
  • Support the SATURN Real World Evidence (RWE) Program in alignment with global medical strategies.
  • Attend local OI scientific meetings, engage with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and HCPs, and present relevant scientific publications.
  • Participate in Early Scientific Advice meetings, collaborating with local teams to prepare materials and present the medical strategy.
  • Work closely with the Patient Access Lead to engage KOLs in dossier strategy development and support key stages of the reimbursement process.
  • Contribute to the Patient Access Strategy Plan, ensuring alignment between medical and patient access teams for the successful launch of the OI treatment.


Qualifications and Experience: IMPORTANT

  • Qualified Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • Willingness to travel within Europe 1-2 per month and Internationally 1-2 per year. Must be based within a commutable distance from London (Oxford Circus) (on-site presence 4 days per week).
  • Strong compliance background with ABPI Final Signatory.
  • Additional qualifications such as a university degree, Master’s, or Ph.D. in pharmaceutical science, healthcare management, or a related field are an advantage.
  • 10 years of experience in medical affairs, preferably in a biotech or pharmaceutical company.
  • Knowledge of the UK healthcare systems, with experience in the reimbursement pathway being an advantage.
  • Proven track record in rare disease therapy development, with hands-on experience in medical affairs strategy and delivery during late-stage development and launch.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to innovate and shape new markets, particularly for therapies where no current alternatives exist.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive, "can-do" attitude and a collaborative team ethos.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects while respecting timelines and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting complex information to various audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, with strong presentation and analytical skills.
