Mechanical Design Engineer - Construction

Location: Wolverhampton, UK

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000


TGS' client is a dynamic and innovative firm that has been specialising in the design and construction of mission critical buildings for over a decade. Their portfolio includes several high profile data centres, pharmaceutical facilities and hospital buildings across the UK and Europe. Due to continued growth , they are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Edinburgh.


Your role revolves around the creation and implementation of mechanical designs, ensuring installations are both secure and compliant on site.


In this role, you'll be:


  • Collaborating on designs aligned with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requisites.
  • Participation in Design team meetings.
  • Conducting surveys of existing installations as needed.
  • Generating thermal models for heating/cooling, ventilation load calculations, utilising industry-specific software.
  • Selecting and sizing various equipment such as AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers, among others.
  • Formulating above-ground drainage calculations and system sizing.
  • Choosing domestic hot and cold-water equipment and performing necessary calculations.
  • Conducting pipe and duct sizing calculations utilising industry software or spreadsheets.
  • If available, involvement in the sizing and selection of firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Creating stage reports, presentations, Designers Risk Assessment, and Mitigation Reports.
  • Developing detailed mechanical layouts and schematics for construction.
  • Ensuring timely project delivery.
  • Generating comprehensive design and survey reports.


What you'll need for the role:


  • Extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering within the construction industry.
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Proficient knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS &EN Irish, UK standards, or ASHRAE.
  • Proficiency in design software like Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS is necessary.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
