Our client, a leading provider in the engineering and maintenance sector, is currently seeking a Lead Controls Engineer to join their growing team in Fareham. This role is situated within the controls and automation discipline, focusing on delivering projects across various industries including Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Energy/Renewables, Data Centres and Utilities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Motivate and supervise the project engineering team, ensuring successful technical delivery of projects within scope, budget and time-scale targets.
  • Allocate tasks to team members, supervise progress, and advise the project manager on project status, risks, and issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager and engineering team to ensure smooth project progress.

Key Activities:

  • Overall technical and engineering team leadership
  • Ensure project technical and quality requirements are met
  • Develop detailed task and procurement lists
  • Monitor and support the progress of engineering tasks
  • Support the Project Manager in identifying and managing risks and issues
  • Prototyping new technologies and standardising reusable modules
  • Training planning, support and mentoring of engineers
  • Support the sales and proposals teams in business development

Functions:

  • Be central to the sales to projects hand-over process
  • Assist in the development of the project Quality Plan
  • Peer review documents created by the project team
  • Act as main contact/client interface for the project
  • Oversee or manage site surveys and site installation
  • Lead design studies and requirement definition for clients
  • Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and Detailed Design Specifications (DDS)
  • Manage integrated system testing, CFAT, SAT, and commissioning

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the full project life cycle from system specification through design, development, testing, and on-site commissioning
  • Hands-on delivery experience with PLC and SCADA systems
  • A good understanding of control panels, electrical installations, and instrumentation solutions
  • A degree or HND/HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems or relevant discipline
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration

Desirable Experience:

  • PLC and SCADA experience with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, AVEVA or Ignition
  • Experience with MQTT & IOT Systems, Historians, and Database Implementation and Management
  • Knowledge of Ethernet network design and configuration, and IT hardware & software
  • Experience with virtualised platforms such as VMware & ESXi
  • Understanding of OT Cyber Security and Functional Safety
  • Proficiency with C#, .NET, Python, JavaScript, CSS, etc.
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols (OPC, IEC 61850, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)
