Socode are proud to be partnering with a battery start-up who are redefining the future of energy storage through advanced materials and proprietary electrochemistry. You’ll be working closely with experts in the field of battery technology, right at the heart of the UK Deeptech ecosystem in Cambridge.

This role offers the chance to gain deep, hands-on experience with novel cathode and electrolyte chemistry, and become an integral part in the transition from benchtop R&D to scalable manufacturing processes.

What will I be doing?

You will support critical wet lab operations that feed directly into scalable manufacturing processes, with responsibilities including:

  • Slurry Formulation & Characterisation
    • Prepare electrode slurries using proprietary active materials, advanced binders, and conductive additives
    • Work with a range of organic solvents and dispersants to create homogenous, reproducible mixtures

  • Process Development Support
    • Follow and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    • Assist in the development and optimisation of new formulations for scale-up
    • Maintain detailed batch records and formulation logs for traceability and quality control
  • Lab Operations & Compliance
    • Ensure daily lab operations run smoothly and efficiently
    • Monitor and manage chemical inventory and lab consumables
    • Uphold safety standards, maintain cleanliness, and comply with COSHH and other regulatory requirements

What do I need to be successful?

  • A-Level/NVQ, BTEC, or HNC in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field or equivalent industry experience in a wet chemistry lab
  • Practical experience with chemical handling, solvent mixing, or formulation chemistry
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment (e.g., overhead stirrers, balances, fume hoods, gloveboxes is a plus)
  • Experience working to SOPs and maintaining accurate lab notebooks and batch records
  • Awareness of chemical hygiene and safe lab practices
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a strong desire to work on impactful sustainability technologies
