The Opportunity

Avantor is looking for a highly-skilled and motivatedLaboratory Services Managerto join our team inCambridge, UK. In this role, you'll manage a team of Laboratory Managers and Technicians, ensuring the effective operation of multidisciplinary laboratories to enable cutting-edge science across various therapeutic areas.


This is a full-time permanent position based at a new facility atThe Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus, Cambridge. We offer a competitive salary, bonus, pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an extra day off for your birthday.


Working hours

Monday to Friday, core hours


The Team

You will be part of a team of four Laboratory Services Managers, each responsible for different service areas. You will manage Laboratory Managers, Service Lead, and Technicians in tissue culture labs, mentoring 24 staff members, with 14 reporting directly to the Service Lead. You will support our Lab and Production Services department, serving pharmaceutical companies and labs worldwide in R&D within the Life Sciences industry.


What We're Looking For


  • Degree in a science-related discipline or equivalent experience with laboratory environments, scientific processes, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GxP, SHE)
  • Proven experience managing teams, including recruitment, performance management, and staff development, preferably in pharma but open to other industries like manufacturing
  • Strong communication skills for building relationships with customers, stakeholders, and teams
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
  • Experience managing operational service delivery, driving efficiency, and improving outcomes
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, especially with Microsoft Excel and IT systems
  • Understanding of health and safety standards, including COSHH and risk assessments
