We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Research Technician within the Reproductive Medicine Research Group, to be part of a large multi-disciplinary project, funded by the Gates Foundation, to explore infertility phenotypes to inform pre-clinical work in drug discovery for both infertility and the development of novel non hormonal contraceptives. This is a fixed-term appointment until 30/06/2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team operating at the cutting edge of technologies and human systems to further our understanding of male infertility. You will be regularly interacting with team members at the School of Medicine (Prof Barratt, Dr Johnston, and Dr Martins da Silva), as well as collaborators in the University of Munster and University of Birmingham. The post-holder will act as the liaison between the research and clinical teams to organise, collect, and prepare human semen samples from study participants for research. The post holder will also use and develop assays to examine the phenotype and function of human sperm from fertile study participants and infertile patients. You will be able to hone your cell biology skills within a highly collaborative environment.

You will be based mainly at Ni newel ls Hospital and Medical School, one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals where the School of Medicine provides outstanding opportunities in medical education and training supported by world class research facilities.

Your priorities will include: Coordinating sample use between patients, the assisted conception unit, and the research team.

Execution of assays/methods to assess functions of human spermatozoa. These will encompass sing le cell and large-scale methods.

Assessment of key phenotypes related to sperm motility and the acrosome reaction.

Ensuring safe and ethical handling of human semen samples.

Collaborating with colleagues within the reproductive medicine research group, the assisted conception un it, and our external partners.

Who we're looking for:

BSc in relevant biological/life sciences subject.

Knowledge or experience in reproductive biology

A working knowledge of aseptic technique and GLP Knowledge of clinical environments and understanding of professionalism required in patient environments.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including evidence of team working, and strong written and verbal communication skills with fluency in English
