Job Title:Research Scientist

Location:East Midlands (Loughborough area)

Salary:£27,000 - £30,000 per annum, plus bonus

Overview:

This role offers the opportunity to join a specialised team conducting animal studies to support both client and internal research. As a Research Scientist, you will ensure compliance with strict welfare, legislative, health, and safety requirements while delivering high-quality scientific outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a variety of in vivo techniques, ranging from basic dosing and clinical observations to advanced surgical procedures (e.g., orthotopic tumour implantation).
  • Monitor animal welfare, identifying early signs of ill health and taking preventative action.
  • Adhere to Home Office legislation (Animals [Scientific Procedures] Act 1986).
  • Maintain precise records of animal health, sources, and usage in collaboration with the Named Veterinary Surgeon.
  • Support and mentor junior team members in in vivo techniques and regulatory standards.
  • Produce and oversee accurate, high-quality data for study directors.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain sterile and contained conditions within the facility.
  • Participate in reviewing and improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality management systems.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in in vivo techniques, including animal handling, welfare assessment, and basic to advanced surgical skills.
  • Knowledge of Home Office regulations and animal welfare standards.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques, tissue collection, and ex vivo analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience in oncology models and translational research is highly beneficial.
  • Personal License Holder (Modules A to C)
  • Educational qualifications: Minimum of 5 GCSEs; A-Levels or BTEC in Animal Care or related fields are preferred.
