As Head of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for scaling up Hoxton Farms’ cultivated fat production from our pilot facility to full-scale manufacturing. You’ll lead our technical operations across three core areas: Production, Scale-Up R&D, and Hardware Development. This is a critical role that blends strategic vision with hands-on execution. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll work closely with the leadership team to shape the company’s roadmap, drive major engineering build projects and ensure our production capability keeps pace with our commercial goals. From deciding the scale-up strategy to delivering our next facility, you’ll have end-to-end responsibility for how we turn science into scalable, sustainable food. Hoxton Farms is growing quickly as we scale up our pilot manufacturing facility in London and build plans for large-scale manufacturing in the UK and overseas. This is an opportunity to lead a talented, enthusiastic and diverse team while playing a huge role in shaping the future of the biomanufacturing industry. You should be a highly experienced leader with a proven track record of hiring engineers, managing projects and developing strategy in a commercial setting. The role is based full-time in person at our HQ in London and will involve travel to oversee contractors, partners or facility builds when needed. We are willing to support international relocation. Cofounded in 2020 by Max Jamilly and Ed Steele, we are building the world’s most scalable and cost-effective tech stack for mammalian cell biomanufacturing – and we’re monetising it with a premium B2B ingredient. B2B cultivated fat is fast to market and will dominate a premium niche. Compared to traditional fat, cultivated pork fat is healthier and more scalable. Hoxton Farms have commercial traction with meat/CPG companies including some of the largest food companies in Asia. *Cost and scale . Hoxton Farms have patented scalable, low-cost, high-yield bioreactors for mammalian stem cells. We opened a pilot production facility in London in 2023. *Team. Hoxton Farms have a brilliant and friendly team including world-class talent from the cultivated meat, biotech and engineering industries – all under one roof in central London. You should have: *a degree in Engineering, Bioprocessing, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or a related field. *experience building and leading a team, managing an engineering roadmap and setting long-term cross-functional strategy *hands-on experience in a startup (Series A+) or scale-up *experience delivering real-world, complex engineering projects to ambitious timelines *proven ability to make long-term strategic decisions *strong communication skills and the ability to present complex technical information to diverse internal and external stakeholders *a willingness to learn from domain experts at Hoxton Farms *a bold mindset, ready to innovate and challenge industry standards in the design process Ideally you’ll have experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas: *technical expertise in manufacturing scale-up to commercial production quantities *bioprocess development for mammalian cell culture or precision fermentation *technoeconomic analysis *regulation for bioprocessing or food production The benefits: Highly competitive salary Stock option plan ️ Brand new lab and office in Old Street Weekly socials and events ️????
