THIS POST IS A SECONDMENT FOR 12 MONTHS MATERNITY COVER

The post holder will work in partnership with education, training and development leads within the workforce and pharmacy employers to ensure consistency, standardisation and quality assurance of foundation pharmacist training programmes throughout Wales. They will be responsible for the regional development and delivery of multi and intra professional education and training and the integration of Health and Social Care within NHS services.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for leading the oversight of foundation pharmacy training for a designated region or number of trainees in Wales. Providing educational and professional support to trainees, supervisors and other relevant stakeholders throughout the training year.

To be responsible for the design, development, review and regional implementation of the HEIW foundation pharmacist onsite and offsite training programme, enabling trainees to work towards foundation training learning outcomes.

To support and implement HEIW quality management processes throughout the training year, ensuring practice is adherent to the HEIW programme accreditation agreement with the regulator.

To engage with local and national stakeholders as part of the annual recruitment cycles for foundation trainee pharmacists, utilising local and national intelligence to lead on the negotiation and securing of placements for a designated region or number of trainees to contribute to the trainee pharmacist and registrant workforce pipeline.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person SpecificationQualifications and Knowledge

  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of supervising trainee pharmacists
  • Engagement with post-graduate (or equivalent) development in education and training

Experience

  • Significant experience in their specialist area.
  • Substantial postgraduate experience and will have held enhanced responsibility in an educational or healthcare post.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary environment, successfully managing staff and teams.
  • Experience of strategic planning, operational planning, policy development and implementation
  • Experience and/or knowledge of audit, evaluation, research and development.
  • Experience /understanding of the external political and social environment, including NHS policy issues and priorities, and the wider agenda of public policy impacting on other relevant agencies.
  • Experience of working in an educationally focused environment
  • Experience in the design and evaluation of business/ management processes/systems environment
  • Experience in writing complex reports for a diverse audience including instances whereby interpretation of related policies is required.
  • Significant experience of managing large and complex projects/work streams
  • Experience in deploying improvement methodologies to develop services.

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to assess trainee progression, site and supervisor suitability, through interpretation and analysis of complex qualitative and quantitative data, high attention to detail and use of professional judgement, against the HEIW quality management framework and principles.
  • Knowledge of education and training programmes, pharmacist development opportunities and the wider training agenda
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills with evidence of an approach that is emotionally and politically intelligent
  • Ability to use MS Office, paper and other electronic platforms to efficiently manage data relating to foundation pharmacist training.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically and to manage change.
  • In depth knowledge of legal frameworks governing: Health and Safety, Employment Law, Freedom of Information, Data Protection etc.
  • Demonstrable leadership and influencing skills working autonomously and part of wider team, engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable self-motivation and effective time management skills, including prioritisation of conflicting tasks
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, and to present a variety of data appropriately and sensitively to these groups.
  • Welsh Language Skills levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
