Formulation Chemist for a chemical manufacturer required, based in Manchester. Requiring a degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, Natural Sciences or similar; as well as industrial laboratory experience formulating flavours and/or fragrances.

Title: Formulation Chemist

Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester

Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

SRG is exclusively partnered with a rapidly growing flavour manufacturer who are now looking to hire a Formulation Chemist to join the lab team at their site in Manchester. This exciting Fomulation Chemist opportunity would be well suited to an early career Chemist with industrial experience formulating flavours and/or fragrances; or an Analytical Chemist with in-depth knowledge of either HPLC or GC instrumentation looking to pivot into more of an R&D type role.

Role / Description

Create novel concentrate blends from a variety of flavour concentrates
Develop a range of flavour formulations
Mixing and preparing samples in the laboratory
Carrying out product testing including flavour profiling and sensory evaluation
Investigating any OOS or OOT results
Ordering supplies and general housekeeping of the laboratory.
Supporting the team with analytical testing (GC-FID, GC-MS & HPLC) where needed.

Requirements

Recently graduated with a degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Forensic Science, Natural Sciences or similar
Industrial experience formulating flavours and/or fragrances
OR industrial experience using HPLC or GC techniques (this could be from a placement year or following University)
Experience in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory would be highly advantageous
An obvious passion for flavour science and formulation chemistry
Self-motivated and proactive, with a willingness to learn
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with a multitude of departments
Able to multi-task and change priorities quickly depending on business need.
