About the Role

Our internships are ideal for undergraduates and recent graduates in the sciences seeking to gain an insight into life at a fast-growing healthcare consultancy. We work with a wide range of clients, including the industry’s most successful pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, patient and public health bodies and charitable organisations. You will be presented with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of projects, typically working on two to three projects for the duration of your internship.

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an Epidemiologist Intern to join our rapidly growing Real-World Evidence (RWE) team. This position is pivotal in shaping the future of Costello Medical’s RWE service offering. Our RWE team contributes to the design, execution, and reporting of various real-world studies, which may be prospective, retrospective, or cross-sectional. They are involved in developing protocols and statistical analysis plans in collaboration with our Statisticians, clients, and external experts, as well as acquiring and analysing data. Additionally, they perform literature reviews and communicate methodologies and results through both written and oral formats. These studies leverage data from patient registries, claims databases, medical charts, prospective studies, and other sources of real-world data, addressing a broad scope of research questions related to disease burden, clinical effectiveness, economic topics, and more.

At the same time, we believe that having face-to-face time in the office holds many benefits and is central to ensuring that the community we have created, where people have a workplace they belong to and feel part of, is never lost. However, given the wealth of training, mentorship and development opportunities that are available as part of our internship programmes, time spent in the office is even more crucial. Therefore, our Interns are able to work from home for 1 day per week.

About You

Essential requirements for the role are:

An undergraduate degree level qualification in a scientific discipline (minimum or expected Postgraduate qualifications (minimum or equivalent) would be an advantage, but they are not a requirement for the role. We welcome applications from candidates with a degree in Public Health, Health Data Science or a similar field An understanding of statistical techniques, sufficient to engage in technical discussions with our Statisticians An understanding of the R programming language and the willingness and ability to develop your programming skills A willingness to trial and explore new software or techniques that may suit specific projects Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan your own work effectively, with a proactive approach to task prioritisation and time management The ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team Strong self-motivation, self-awareness and willingness to learn, with a desire to contribute to the company above and beyond project work Excellent written and spoken English, and the ability to communicate scientific material clearly in both written and oral form for a variety of audiences Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint A genuine interest in healthcare and an eagerness to learn about new areas of science

The Recruitment Process

Our recruitment process includes a written assessment and proofreading exercise for you to complete in your own time. If successful, you will then be invited to an interview with members of our Real-World Evidence team. Our standard recruitment process lasts around 1 month however, this can be adapted if necessary.

We are currently recruiting for interns to join us for a duration of 6 months with start dates in 2025. You will be asked to state your preferred start date on your application form. Please note that this role is available in our Global Headquarters in Cambridge, as well as our London, Manchester, and Bristol offices, with a preference for candidates based in London or Cambridge where members of the RWE team will be onsite to support with your training and development.
