Role Purpose:

Biotechnologist 1 is an entry level position. The Biotechnologist will be expected to learn and carry out the basic skills used in a GMP Manufacturing environment, progressing from supervised to unsupervised activities.

Various duties which will ensure that products are manufactured within the manufacturing area at the Slough UK facility in accordance with schedule, safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices.

Key Accountabilities and Duties:

1. Training

Obtain a thorough knowledge of the production systems and the relevant LONZA systems to enable efficient production Ongoing maintenance of own training file against set targets and ensuring full training has taken place in all aspects of the production activities Extending training beyond assigned core areas Ensure that objectives given are met in the appropriate timescale

​2.Safety

Ensure appropriate safety policies and systems are adhered to, including wearing the correct Personal Protection Equipment for the area and task. Highlight any safety issues you become aware of in the area in which you are working. Ensure COSHH assessments are read and understood prior to commencing activities It is the responsibility of individual operators to display a safety first approach to all activities.

3.Quality Systems

Ensure that high standards of cGMP are adhered to both for self and others Gain familiarity with Lonza quality procedures eg change control, the deviation system and validation procedures Assist in reviewing and closing out comments of completed batch records. Use of Trackwise system to raise deviations as appropriate, follow up and close out CAPAs.

4.Documentation

Ensure that high standards of documentation completion are adhered to both for self and others Ensure that all documents are read and under stood and appropriate level of training is completed prior to completion of batch records

5.Plant and Process

Direct involvement in the manufacturing process. Carrying out preparation activities related to scheduled purification facility activities e.g. column pack, UF preparations, unicorn cleans, equipment calibrations. Use of aseptic technique in performing work around the purification activities. Direct involvement in checking of batch records. Identify any Continuous Improvements to the process/equipment, and help with completion of any projects to which have been assigned Ensure high standards of housekeeping are adhered to including cleaning of areas and equipment to set procedures.

6.Area ownership

When assigned an area, become owner of that area including weekly area check list and maintenance assessments of that area and associated equipment. Also be fully aware of and comply with the 6S philosophy in all areas.

7.Communication

Make every effort to attend team and other meetings (eg company communication meetings, training sessions) Utilise all communications tools to increase knowledge of team and company workings eg intranet Ensure that communication between self, team and outside is 2 way and is kept professional.
