The Role
As the Deputy Manager and Quality Manager you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of pathology services. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, and the Pathology Manager to oversee the operational and strategic direction of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with UKAS standards, clinical governance, and continuous quality improvement.
You will:
Deputise for the Pathology Manager and help to lead and manage the pathology department, ensuring excellent diagnostic services
Oversee and develop the department’s Quality Management System (QMS) to meet ISO 15189 standards
Act as the designated Quality Lead for UKAS accreditation processes
Support and mentor a team of Biomedical Scientists and laboratory staff
Drive innovation, service development, and implementation of best practices
Liaise with clinical teams to ensure laboratory services meet patient needs
Manage resources, budgets, and service-level performance reporting
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual with:
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
MSc or equivalent desirable
Significant experience in a senior BMS role, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities
Strong knowledge and understanding of MHRA compliance and ISO 15189 standards.
Experience with UKAS audits/accreditation
Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a high-pressure environment
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
A patient-centred approach and commitment to clinical excellence
