This is a readvertisement, previous applicants need not reapply. At the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (SWC), our research labs are the heart of groundbreaking neuroscience discoveries. As the Deputy Laboratory Operations Manager, you will play an integral role in ensuring these labs remain safe, organised, and equipped for innovation. Working closely with the Centre Laboratory Manager, you will help maintain fully operational facilities tailored to the needs of twelve Group Leaders, their teams, and our state-of-the-art facilities like the Advanced Microscopy Facility and Viral Vector Core. Your responsibilities will include supporting health and safety compliance within the labs, facilitating training for safe laboratory practices and helping to lead on laboratory sustainability. Additionally, you will work collaboratively with the Laboratory Management Team to provide seamless operational support, especially during colleagues’ absences or busy periods. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vibrant environment supporting world leading research.

About you

We are looking for a proactive and organised individual with a strong understanding of laboratory operations and a commitment to fostering a safe and efficient research environment. Experience in laboratory health and safety, equipment management, and delivering training, is essential. You’ll also need excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with scientists, technicians, and support staff. The ideal candidate will have experience working in research or laboratory management and be comfortable taking initiative to solve problems and support the team. A keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills are key, as is a readiness to step in and provide support during high-demand periods. The Centre is externally funded with funding awarded in five-year tranches subject to periodic funder review. Subject to successful grant renewal, staff posts will be extended in line with successive funding periods. Interviews will be held on Thursday 27th or Friday 28th February.
