Consultant Psychiatrist - Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAHMS)

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled, approachable and motivated Consultant Child &Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the Barnet Enfield and Haringey CAMHS division in a full time post to help in managing the care of young people living requiring assessment and treatment within Enfield CAMHS (Generic/ Neurodevelopmental- 6 PAs) which is based at Bay Tree House, Enfield and Enfield CAMHS Looked after Children (HEART Team) 4 PAs- based at Thomas Hardy House, Enfield). This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant to work within a well-functioning and closely knit multidisciplinary team of committed professionals in CAMHS and Enfield LAC Team. This is an existing Consultant post which has become vacant as the current post holder has moved within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be working as part of an established multidisciplinary Generic Specialist CAMHS team which working closely together with other disciplines. The service includes Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Clinical/ Counselling Psychologists, Child Psychotherapists, Family Therapists, CAMHS Practitioners and Mental Health Nurses. The multi-disciplinary team has had further expansion and recruitment as a result of agreed new commissioning and investment working to offer a full complement of therapeutic interventions and work towards meeting the demands of the service. Currently the multi-disciplinary team have skills to offer Generic and Neurodevelopmental initial assessments /screenings and work across the two areas and we have an identified group of clinicians that have highly specialist skills to support the NDS pathway. Our plan going forward would be to create two pathways in this team- a Generic/Emotional pathway and a Neurodevelopmental pathway. Each MDT clinician holds their own individual clinical caseload.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be expected: To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed with the medical director and in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures. There are currently no medical training posts attached to the advertised post, but the post-holder may be asked to supervise trainee doctors as part of leave cover for the designated clinical supervisors in the team. To ensure that junior doctors working with them are compliant with the Working Time Directive. To comply with procedures whereby doctors report concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues. To comply with the principles of practice laid out by the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct. To demonstrate compliance with legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g., Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act, The Children Act. To participate in annual appraisal for consultants. To participate annually in a job plan review with the CAMHS Division Clinical Director and the Enfield Medical Lead. To attend and participate in the academic program of the Trust, including lectures and seminars of the internal CPD program. To comply with the regulations of the Royal College of Psychiatrists on Continuing Medical Education (CPD). To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients. To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department. To comply with confidentiality as advised by professional and Department of Health Guidelines. To comply with proper and safe discharge procedures for in-patients e.g., in line with Department of Health Guidelines on Discharge and Caring for People: The Care Program Approach. To comply with Trust procedures that involve users in their care. To comply with Trust procedures with regard to responsibility to carers. To commit to ensuring that people from all ethnic groups have equitable access to appropriate services. To ensure successful multi-disciplinary working. Person Specification

Qualifications

• MBBS and additional experience in learning disability or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry leading to CCT/CESR registration

• MRCPsych Qualifications or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  
• Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date.
  
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  
• Section 12 Approved or able to achieve within three months of appointment
  
• In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
