Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Trust based in East of England to help recruit a Consultant Microbiologist for a substantive or a Locum Fixed Term Contract.

The NHS organisation is a large University Trust providing community, acute and specialist care across a number of sites. With other 9,000 staff, they are the regional centre for a number of service.

They are now looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant Microbiologist to join the well-established department. The posts are open to doctors trained in clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases

The post holder will be responsible with the other Consultant Microbiologists and Infectious Diseases Specialists for a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical microbiology and infection service for the Hospitals. It is anticipated that there will be an increasing level of cross-site working in the interests of service needs, efficiencies and resilience.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the post-holder and the clinical department. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year, covering all aspects of professional practice including clinical work, teaching, education, and managerial responsibilities.

Brief Duties:

Providing of a comprehensive clinical medical microbiology service including advising on specimens and with analysis
Validation and interpretation of results for the department and wards
Involvement in the management of individual patients through full clinical liaison and ward visits
Participation in medical audit and quality assurance and control within the laboratory and clinically
Business planning, including the assessment and introduction of new methods, and forward planning for staff and equipment requirements
Contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education
Participation in a recognised scheme of Continuing Professional Development. Funding and study leave is available for agreed purposes.
Participation in clinical governance and other quality activities as relevant.
Be an integral member of IPCT, advising and supporting the ICNs as agreed with the DIPC
Attend hospital infection control committee
Assist in preparing the annual infection prevention and control work programme.
