Requiredto fill this new post within the Paediatric Urology Department at the Leeds ChildrensHospital.

TheLeeds Childrens Hospital has an annual budget of £61 million, inpatient bedbase of 286 beds, and delivers 56,000 outpatient appointments and 19,000inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of which is on the Leeds GeneralInfirmary site, however there is a Neonatal unit based on the St JamesHospital site. The Leeds Childrens Hospital employs a total of 90 consultantsproviding general, specialist and supra-regional childrens medical andsurgical services. Inpatient, day case and outpatient services are mainlyprovided at the LGI.

AdditionalChildrens Services provided in Non-Paediatric Specialities

Servicesfor children are also provided within a number of other specialities. Theseinclude dermatology, orthopaedic and spinal surgery, ophthalmology, dentalsurgery, maxillo-facial surgery, accident and emergency, ENT, neurosurgery,plastic and reconstructive surgery, renal transplant surgery and clinicalgenetics.

Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful applicant should possess MB BS, FRCS (or equivalent). A FEAPUqualification is desirable. They should be included on the Specialist Registeror within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within atraining programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultantappointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on theSpecialist Register.

Applicants should haveestablished skills in and its related specialties including a high level ofclinical experience and competence in paediatric urology.

Specifically,he/she must demonstrate higher training in paediatric urology. Previous experience and interest in thesubspecialty of stone disease is desirable, as this role will encompass themanagement of stones as well as general paediatric urology.

Astrong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a researchinterest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilities

2.OBJECTIVESOF THE POST

To deliver care topatients with paediatric urology conditions at the Leeds Childrens Hospital

Sub-specialtyinterest of stones with specialist clinics and theatre lists for this purpose

Out-patientclinics - in Leeds and DGH around the region

Operativelists

Careof in-patients on a 1:4 paediatric urology telephone on call rota

Contributeto Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings, especially the stone service

To link with Consultant colleagues in otherrelevant site specialist teams within the Childrens Hospital and across theTrust,

To work with colleaguesin paediatric urology to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 4).This includesboth out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal workinghours. There is a total of 22 Junior Doctors made up of LST/HST/Fellow of whichone fellow and up to two Spr are dedicated to Urology.

To contribute toresearch, teaching and new developments within the paediatric urologydepartment.

The post holder will beencouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical researchprograms on going in the department.

Person SpecificationQualifications

  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • CCT with subspeciality accreditation in Paediatric Urology
  • Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Experience

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Paediatric Urology.
  • Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in Urology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit

  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric Urology.
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
  • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.

Management, Interpersonal Skills & Other Criteria

  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
  • *Well organised and skilled in good time management.
  • *Effective interpersonal skills.
  • *Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
  • *Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • *Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
  • -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process. CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.
  • Attendance at recognised management course.
