Internship Exploring General Business & Beyond

Optosurgical, LLC is an early-stage imaging medical device startup that is developing a point-of-care camera system that can provide structural and functional tissue information to operating surgeons in real-time. We are looking to hire a highly motivated graduate student for a full-time summer internship opportunity, with the potential to extend into the fall semester.

An ideal intern will have a strong background in: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or other relevant fields. If interested, the intern will be exposed to various aspects of what it’s like to grow a startup from the ground up. Work will be performed primarily in our Columbia, Maryland office. Pay is commensurate with experience (minimum $17/hr). Our close-knit team is excited to welcome the intern and grow our venture together!

Specific duties and responsibilities

  1. Modify and test machine learning models
  2. Develop separate elements of software that work well in the program as a whole
  3. Assist in day-to-day logistical and operational tasks
  4. Stay up to date with relevant research and prepare weekly/monthly update reports and presentations for the team

Required qualifications

  1. Familiarity with Python
  2. Solid knowledge of machine learning frameworks
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  4. Flexibility with assigned tasks and duties
  5. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for the duration of the internship without sponsorship

Ideal applicants will have

  1. Proven experience in machine learning models of computer vision projects
  2. Familiarity with PyTorch
  3. Familiarity with OpenCV
  4. Familiarity with ROS2
  5. Familiarity with Transformer models
  6. Understand basic ideas and terms of medical imaging and optical imaging (3D vision, medical robotics, minimally invasive surgery)
  7. Usability testing experience and familiarity with usability documentation (IEC 62366, etc.)
  8. Familiarity with the medical field: thyroid surgery, liver surgery, abdominal surgery, bowel surgery

Preferred Majors

  1. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or other relevant fields
