The Clinical Research Fellow will conduct high-quality research using spatial biology techniques to investigate kidney disease mechanisms. This will include integration of multi-omics and clinical data and will involve close collaboration with colleagues across CG-TIC and at GSK.


The position is based in the Department of Medicine, working with researchers based primarily in the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease (CITIID) who are part of the CG-TIC. The chosen candidate will work in a dynamic, supportive team under the mentorship of Prof. Menna Clatworthy, Professor of Translational Immunology (). Prof. Clatworthy is a world leader in renal immunology, tissue immunity and spatial biology. You would also work closely with Dr James McCaffrey, an academic histopathologist in the Clatworthy group with extensive expertise in spatial biology.

Applicants should have a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with an interest in renal medicine. Experience of working with industry partners and collaborative working will be extremely valuable but is not essential. Similarly, prior experience with spatial biology, omics or bioinformatics would be advantageous.

The role comes with the opportunity to undertake a fully funded PhD, based within the Department of Medicine, and with access to high quality training and mentorship.

Fixed-term:The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

This is an integrated appointment between the University and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ("NHS Trust"). You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Clinical Contract by the NHS Trust. You should be aware that if your contract with the NHS Trust is terminated your employment with the University will be terminated, and vice versa.
