THE ROLE

We are seeking a clinical programmer with 8+ years of SAS experience who has successfully transitioned to R programming, particularly in developing interactive applications with R Shiny. The ideal candidate will bridge legacy clinical trial systems with modern open-source solutions while maintaining compliance with CDISC standards (SDTM, ADaM) and regulatory requirements.

In this role, you will be responsible for clinical programming and data conversion in this role, focusing on modernizing legacy systems. Key responsibilities include converting existing SAS programs used for SDTM and ADaM datasets, as well as Tables, Listings, and Figures (TLFs), into R Packages. The position also involves developing parameterized R Markdown reports and interactive Shiny dashboards to enhance clinical data visualization and reporting. Additionally, the candidate will design and implement CDISC-compliant data pipelines using both R and SAS, employing PROC SQL and MACROS to ensure efficient and standardized data processing.

This position is remote (although it can be office-based or hybrid, depending on your location) and will involve occasional travel to events throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Convert legacy SAS programs for SDTM/ADaM datasets and TLFs to R
  • Develop parameterized R Markdown reports and Shiny dashboards for clinical data visualization
  • Implement CDISC-compliant data pipelines using both R and SAS (PROC SQL, MACROS)
  • Create bidirectional SAS-R validation frameworks using various packages
  • Maintain hybrid codebases supporting parallel SAS/R execution for phased migrations
  • Develop Shiny modules replicating SAS Enterprise Guide workflows for stakeholder adoption
  • Execute Pinnacle 21 validation checks on R-generated SDTM datasets
  • Implement R equivalents of SAS clinical macros #
  • Document conversion processes using roxygen2 and SAS-to-R crosswalk matrices
  • Train SAS teams in R programming through paired coding sessions
  • Interface with Biostatistics to transition SAS PROC MIXED models
  • Support regulatory submissions with dual-format (SAS XPT/RDS) datasets

Qualifications

  • Clinical SAS experience (PROC SQL, MACROS, ODS)
  • R- Programming & R-shiny
  • Portfolio demonstrating SAS-to-R conversions
  • SDTM/ADaM implementations
  • TLF generation
  • Clinical data checks & Deep understanding of: Clinical trial protocols, MedDRA/WHODrug coding in both languages, & SAS-R data type reconciliation
  • Python Coding is a plus.
