The ILS (Illumina Laboratory Services) team in Cambridge applies Illumina’s core sequencing technology to large scale, high throughput (HTP) sequencing initiatives such as the Genomic Medicine Service, an initiative that delivers Whole Genome Sequencing into routine healthcare in partnership with Genomics England and the NHS. The role

As a Laboratory Supervisor you will be responsible for the smooth day to day running of the WGS production service. You will provide line management to the clinical laboratory technicians, schedule daily work across the team working at two key locations in the Cambridge area to ensure customer KPIs are met. You will attend cross functional meetings that support hitting production targets whilst maintaining high ISO 15189 standards in the work performed and compliance with EH&S requirements across the team.

Responsibilities include

Provide line management to clinical lab technicians. Plan activities and maintain lab schedules at team level to meet daily operational needs. Supervise the lab team on day to day activities to ensure throughput targets are met. Guarantee full compliance in the lab with the International Standard (ISO 15189) and ESH requirements. Ensure all team members adhere to existing Risk Assessments (RAs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) at all times. Recommend changes to team processes to improve team effectiveness. Identify training requirements that support individual development and maintain efficient operations. Take responsibility for the efficient use of all lab equipment within the clinical laboratories. Troubleshoot issues affecting the day-to-day lab production, identifying rapid solutions to maintain targets and quality. Contribute to overall team goals whilst maintaining individual output.
