Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Serology service team within Blood Sciences at Charing Cross Hospital.
Applications are invited from self -motivating, suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with strong post HCPC experience and an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in virology or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience.
The blood sciences laboratory offers the opportunity to work in a well-equipped environment with a high level of (pre-analytical and analytical) automation. You will be working with new, state of the art analysers including Abbott Alinities and will be responsible for day to day laboratory work including running of samples, result authorisation, quality and health & safety processes.
As both biochemistry and serology assays are performed on same platforms, the successful candidate will be expected to rotate through biochemistry section upon completion of appropriate training and competency.
Main duties of the job
1. Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
2. Able to perform core scientific work, which corresponds to the training and qualifications of a Healthcare Scientist Associate Practitioner.
3. Develop and improve your professional expertise.
4. Provide basic clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Job responsibilities
The laboratory is covered for 24 hours seven days a week and the successful candidate would be expected to participate in the late/weekend shifts and contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients in the Trust hospitals. Staff are also expected to work across our six hospital sites when required.
The laboratory has IBMS training approval for training for Registration and Specialist Portfolio. Applicants must have a desire to learn and develop within our busy laboratories.

Person Specification
EDUCATION
Essential
2nd class honours degree or equivalent in a biological science which is acceptable by Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) HCPC Registration. Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent in relevant discipline. 24 months proven experience post Registration in the relevant discipline.
SKILLS/ABILITIES

Practical analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Reliable and trustworthy Ability to work under pressure
EXPERIENCE
