This Position reports to:
Cluster Large Pursuits Sales Team Lead

Join ABB's UK Cluster Solutions Sales Team as a Line Manager and Bid Manager, leading a team of Bid Managers across Automation, Electrical, Telecom, and Digital solutions. You'll ensure all sales proposals are staffed with expert personnel, deliver accurate cost and engineering estimates, and produce high-quality scopes of work. Collaborating closely with commercial, procurement, technical, and project teams, plus interfacing with Technical Advisory, Operations, and Front End Sales, you'll drive seamless bid management for ABB's installed base. Reporting to the PAEN UK Solutions Sales Lead, this role demands strong commercial leadership and business acumen to excel.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you'll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.

- Work model: hybrid from our St Neots or Warrington locations {#LI-hybrid}

  • Line Management:Oversee safe, ethical, and efficient utilization of team members; conduct ongoing progress and performance reviews; manage staffing, onboarding/offboarding, and administrative approvals.
  • Reporting:Collaborate with line manager on proposal planning and priorities; act as deputy and escalate issues when needed.
  • Opportunity Development:Support Sales and Account Managers by allocating skilled Bid Managers, providing technical expertise, influencing pricing strategies, and participating in capture teams.
  • Proposal Delivery:Ensure allocation of competent Bid Managers to produce high-quality scopes and estimates; maintain deep knowledge of internal processes to meet customer deadlines and quality standards; liaise with Operations for project alignment.
  • Risk Management:Identify commercial and execution risks; plan mitigations in proposals; coach team on risk awareness.
  • Continuous Improvement:Identify and implement proposal process improvements; contribute to development of tendering tools and cost models; conduct lessons-learned reviews post-opportunity.
  • Business Development:Collaborate with Service and Sales teams on market strategies, leveraging customer insights and resource availability; support formation of specialized capture teams.
  • Team Development:Motivate, guide, and develop team capabilities to drive excellence and continuous growth.



Qualifications for the Role

  • You will have proven experience successfully leading and managing complex automation, electrical or telecommunication bids, for the Oil and Gas, Power Generation, new energies, or other Energy sectors.
  • You will a deep knowledge of at least one of the following: bid management processes, commercial
    agreements, contractual terms and conditions negotiations, costing model calculations, project execution, risk management, technical execution or project management for automation, electrical, or telecoms projects.
  • You will require strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to exude commercial, and
    contractual competence when customer-facing, including a professional "can-do" attitude, and attention to details.
  • You must be a highly motivated individual who can plan their time, priorities, and tasks. You must be able to multitask and still meet deadlines within your area of responsibility.
  • You must be able to identify, agree and implement change.
  • Some previous line management experience is preferrable.
  • You will be fluent in English
