Main duties of the job

The role involves effectively organizing and prioritizing work to ensure tasks are completed on time and meet established quality standards. It requires maintaining safe working practices in accordance with standard operating procedures, while actively contributing to both internal and external quality assurance efforts. The Biomedical Scientist will be responsible for validating and authorising reports in line with local policies, exercising professional judgment when necessary. Accurate documentation, including electronic records, must be maintained in compliance with Trust standards. The role also includes promoting awareness and adherence to Trust policies and procedures among colleagues. Identifying and reporting both clinical and non-clinical risks is essential, with appropriate actions taken in accordance with the Trusts risk management policy. Additionally, the position demands autonomous responsibility for the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure consistent and reliable performance.

As a Biomedical Scientist at NWLP, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, timely, and accurate diagnostic services. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and professionalism, with responsibilities spanning from specimen analysis to equipment maintenance. You will work independently and as part of a team, contributing to shift work and on-call services as required.

The Biomedical Scientist will be responsible for organising and prioritising their workload to ensure timely completion of tasks while maintaining high standards of quality. They will carry out the receipt, analysis, and reporting of clinical specimens with precision and reliability, and will validate and authorise laboratory reports in accordance with local policies, using professional judgment where appropriate. The role requires adherence to safe working practices and standard operating procedures, with active participation in both internal and external quality assurance schemes.

The post holder will ensure that all documentation, including electronic records, complies with Trust and regulatory standards. They will promote awareness and adherence to Trust policies and procedures among colleagues, and will identify and report clinical and non-clinical risks, taking appropriate action in line with the Trusts risk management policy. A key aspect of the role involves the independent maintenance, calibration, and safe operation of complex laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and optimal performance.

In addition, the Biomedical Scientist will support the delivery of high-quality, responsive services that meet regulatory and accreditation standards, particularly those set by UKAS. They will maintain meticulous records and actively contribute to laboratory accreditation and quality improvement initiatives. The individual will also engage in continuous professional development, documenting progress in line with HCPC requirements, and will provide training and mentorship to less experienced staff as directed by their line manager, fostering a culture of learning and excellence within the department.

HCPC Registration and clear understanding of Code of Conduct
