Job summary
The Band 5 rotational role provides experience in a variety of settings across UHCW and may be placed within any of the services supported by UHCW Dietitians. Provides a professional dietetic service for adults and paediatrics, across a range of general medical and surgical inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and the community at UHCW. Assesses and treats own workload of patients / clients and maintains associated records, with support as necessary from Senior colleagues. Liaises with dietetic colleagues and other members of hospital staff as necessary medical, nursing, catering and other health professionals.

Main duties of the job
As a valued member of the Dietetic & SLT department, the post holder will be involved in a wide range of activities to support the patient journey. The post holder will adhere to the following:
Clinical
To work autonomously to provide dietetic advice to adult and paediatric patients, their carers and staff with a range of medical conditions within in-patient, out-patient and community settings f within agreed protocols and guidelines and with support from senior colleagues when necessary including: Carry out nutritional assessments (interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet history) to determine nutritional problem. Development of treatment plans (calculation of nutritional requirements, analysis of nutritional intakes sometimes using specialist IT systems, client centred goals and discharge planning including patients on artificial nutritional support) Prescription of dietary treatment and ACBS products for conditions where there are limited professional / clinical guidelines available Facilitation of group sessions to support patient knowledge and behaviour change. To be clinically competent to give dietetic advice, treatment and dietary counselling to patients in a variety of conditions across different settings.

Job responsibilities
Training and Education
To participate in the clinical supervision of student dietitians, including planning timetables and undertaking tutorials. To carry out nutrition education & training for nurses, support workers, catering and medical staff as required.
Professional
To keep up to date with developments in dietetics participating in appropriate training and development activities To actively participate and contribute to departmental clinical supervision group to ensure regular evaluation of practice through peer review. To participate in the preparation and update of dietary information and resources. To support and participate in dietetic staff meetings, sharing knowledge, evaluating, and improving service delivery. To participate in the departments Clinical Governance programme including evidence-based practice workshops, clinical audit and reporting of clinical risks. To document patient activity data in accordance with trust and professional standards. To comment on nutrition & dietetic guidelines and procedures and proposes changes to working practice. To participate in personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives. To work as an autonomous practitioner working within the BDA Code of professional conduct and HCPC Standards of conduct, performance and Ethics and Standards of Proficiency (Dietitians). Contributes to the development and maintenance of the profile of the Dietetic profession. To ensure that all Trust wide and departmental standards and guidelines are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care, to all who encounter services provided by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
