Moorfields Eye Hospital are recruiting an experienced Band 4 Rotational Registered Pharmacy Technician to join their highly skilled and qualified team.
Moorfields is the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research and education. Their clinical staff take great pride in providing high-quality care to their patients across their extensive specialist clinics, including their A&E department; Paediatric clinic; Retinal Therapy Unit; Cataract, Glaucoma, Genetics, Oracular Oncology departments; and many more. It provides state-of-the-art operating facilities run by some of the UK’s leading ophthalmology surgeons, providing operative services including laser treatment, vision correction, cosmetic treatment, and various other corrective treatment for a range of eye conditions.
This post is rotational and the post holder must be prepared to travel the Moorfields North and South Divisions. Rotations will cover patient facing pharmacy dispensaries based in the North division (Ealing, Northwick Park, St. Ann’s and Stratford) and a base site at Moorfields at St. Ann’s Hospital.
The post holder will assist in the provision of a safe and an efficient patient focused clinical pharmacy service in the main dispensaries. They will support the Senior Pharmacy Technician delivering a robust and efficient pharmacy top-up service which ensures safe supply of medicines to wards and other clinical areas across the Trust. To liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and cost effective medicines supply to wards and departments within the trust. To liaise with external stakeholders regarding medication supply issues or shortages, to liaise with the Senior Pharmacy Technician when shortages have been highlighted.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
To receive prescriptions from patients for dispensing
To dispense outpatient and inpatient medicines
To give out dispensed and checked medications with appropriate instructions to patients
To support stock control within the main dispensary including ordering and receiving stock from pharmacy distribution and stock rotation
To maintain accurate data relating to stock balance and assisting investigations when discrepancies occur
To process prescription and over the counter payments where applicable by cash or credit card and end of the day payment reconciliation
To provide mentoring and training support to new and junior members of staff
To maintain clean and tidy dispensing facilities and safe systems of work including expiry date checking and correct disposal of medication
To manage all aspects of the safe and effective control and supply of controlled drugs
To assist in providing a stock top up service to wards and the accident and emergency department liaising with senior nursing staff to agree stock levels
To assist in the ordering and distribution of emergency drug boxes
To be prepared to participate in other duties appropriate to grade at the request of the relevant manager
REQUIREMENTS:
BTEC or NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical services
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
Minimum 6 months’ work experience post qualification
ACPT accreditation (accuracy checking)
Experience working in hospital pharmacy
