APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

Transvac is a world leader in providing innovative, custom-designed Ejector systems for the process industries. With 50+ years of experience and thousands of Ejectors supplied, we have built a strong reputation backed by a comprehensive list of worldwide references across various industries, including energy, oil & gas, water, chemicals, food, and pharmaceuticals.

As both a designer and manufacturer, Transvac maintains full control over the design, raw material procurement, manufacturing, scheduling, and testing processes.

We are currently seeking an APPLICATIONS ENGINEER to join our busy Head Office in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

Responsibilities

You will become an integral part of a friendly and collaborative team of like-minded people, assisting the Sales Department in the preparation of our bids and then contractual requirements for Flare Gas Recovery systems (and other packages) for our international Oil and Gas clients. You will assist with the development of Packaged Ejectors Systems for our clients.

Required Steps:

  1. Define Project Scope and Objectives – Work alongside our Sales and Process team to establish clear goals and design requirements for a particular project.

  2. Gather Basic Design Data – We need basic design data, process, and performance parameters. This maybe from review of client documentation or meetings with the client, be that face to face or via MS Teams, or handed over from our Sales team.

  3. Process flow diagrams (PFDs) – Flowcharts that describe the major processes and equipment, etc. These can be produced by you or, can be produced by our CAD team, under your guidance and with the assistance of the Sales and Process Teams.

  4. Develop the Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) – Identify control systems, valves, and piping configurations. This will be a collaborative effort between the Process Team, Sales Team and you. Following this, prepare an equipment list.

  5. Material & Energy Balances – Input-output relationships/efficiency of the process. This is the responsibly of the Process team, however, the ability to understand these will be a benefit.

  6. Design Equipment Specifications – Define mechanical and operational details for the major equipment. This is a major part of this role. The ability to extract the correct requirements for a particular piece of equipment, prepare an enquiry to our suppliers, then scrutinize their quotations to ensure compliance with the project standards is very important.

  7. Provide feedback to various departments — Include standards that must be met, operational best practices (e.g. Provide the Design team with any equipment installation requirements to include in the layout) and be proactive in taking any ‘lessons learned’ forward to new projects.

  8. Prepare Documentation & Review – Assemble the pack of completed information to hand over to the Project Managers when the project moves from a bid to a contract.

    Objective:

To provide essential design and technical data for engineering, construction, and operations to enable Transvac to continue to provide efficient, safe, and cost-effective packaged designs and timely project execution.

    Other Responsibilities:

Assisting other Transvac Product areas as needed.

Collaborate with other departments to help produce Product Data Sheets (Transvac Products)

Cost estimation (In-house and sub-suppliers quotations)

Technical / Quality Queries from clients (pre and post quotation)

Potentially attend bid clarification and offsite meetings with clients in a supporting role.

Working with other Transvac Departments across the business

Speaking directly to clients via telephone, skype or video conferencing.

Provide general technical / process assistance to the Sales team.

Identify / recommend / develop improvements and assist with ‘standardisation’ of the Transvac packaged equipment (assisted by other Departments) and to work with other Sales Team members to streamline the Technical Sales Procedures.

    Education & Experience Requirements

Degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering (BEng or MEng).

Previous involvement in supporting packaged systems design.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

At least three years of relevant industry experience.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently in high-pressure situations.

    Commercial awareness and business acumen.

Rural-Remote Biotech Jobs: Making Waves Beyond the Big Cities

A Fresh Outlook for Biotech Professionals When people think of biotech jobs in the UK, their minds often jump to the famous “Golden Triangle” encompassing London, Oxford, and Cambridge—areas historically rich in research institutes, biotech start-ups, and Big Pharma headquarters. While these regions remain crucial to the sector, the landscape is evolving. New technologies, changes in work culture, and the increasing feasibility of remote and hybrid roles are drawing life science professionals away from city centres and into the rural or coastal parts of the country. At BiotechnologyJobs.co.uk, we see more and more postings for roles in beautiful, often overlooked areas—from the hills of North Wales and the rolling landscapes of Yorkshire to the spectacular coastlines of Cornwall and Argyll. Even jobseekers are becoming more adventurous with their search terms, going beyond “lab technician in London” to include lifestyle-driven queries like “tech jobs by the sea” or “biotech remote countryside.” Why are these opportunities emerging now? The COVID-19 pandemic changed perceptions around how research and product development teams operate. Laboratories once thought it essential for everyone to be physically present all the time, but many tasks—particularly in data-intensive or administrative areas—proved workable with remote collaboration. Moreover, biotech itself is diversifying. Marine biology initiatives, agricultural biotech, digital health, and bioinformatics often take place outside city labs, tapping into local ecosystems or farmland as living laboratories. Below, we delve into how biotech professionals can embrace rural or seaside living without sacrificing career momentum. Whether you’re a research scientist hoping to reduce your urban commute, a bioinformatician who can work from anywhere, or a regulatory affairs specialist longing to live near the coast, rural-remote biotech roles offer exciting, career-enhancing possibilities.

Quantum-Enhanced AI in Biotech: The Next Big Leap for Life Sciences

Biotechnology sits at the confluence of science and innovation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare, agriculture, and beyond. In the past few decades, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has supercharged this field by offering predictive modelling and data analysis tools that are faster and more accurate than ever before. But a new, potentially game-changing ally is emerging in the quest to deepen our understanding of life’s complexities: quantum computing. Early signs suggest that quantum-enhanced AI could give biotech research a major shot in the arm—enabling new breakthroughs in drug discovery, genomics, and computational biology at speeds previously thought unattainable. By harnessing qubits instead of binary bits, quantum computing can explore vast solution spaces in parallel, promising to streamline processes that currently cost millions of pounds and untold hours of lab time. In this article, we’ll explore: How quantum computing differs from traditional computing. Why AI, particularly in biotechnology, stands to benefit from quantum’s speed and scale. Practical applications—from rational drug design to personalised medicine—that could be revolutionised. The emergence of quantum-biotech roles, including salary insights and skill requirements. Actionable strategies for professionals ready to ride the next wave of scientific innovation. Whether you’re a biotech professional looking to future-proof your career, a student investigating the next hot field, or simply curious about the intersection of cutting-edge tech and life sciences, read on. You’ll discover how quantum-enhanced AI is poised to reshape biotechnology and what you can do to be part of this transformation.
