About Us:
Butterworth Laboratories is a busy contract analytical chemistry laboratory working primarily for the pharmaceutical industry. The company is independent and prides itself in providing a high quality, reliable analytical service to its clients.
About the role:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our team on a full-time permanent basis. The role will involve testing raw materials and finished products to in-house or published methods. As an Analytical Chemist, you will also be required to use classical and instrumental techniques to pharmacopoeial or other published method sources in an inorganic analytical testing laboratory. Examples of the types of testing performed are:
UV, visible and infra-red spectrometry
Atomic absorption spectrometry
Refractometry
Duties and Responsibilities:
Working in a fast-paced environment with numerous competing deadlines, with the ability to complete all analytical work within required timeframes and meet fast turnaround requirements.
Compliance with Company regulations including in-house health and safety, GMP, GLP and UKAS Quality requirements.
Ensuring that high quality work is carried out in the most efficient manner and minimising errors.
Execution of own work as well as assisting others.
Training and development of analytical staff as and when required.
About you:
Experience / Knowledge/ Qualifications
Required:
Educated to degree standard in chemistry or related subject.
Proven experience performing classical wet chemistry techniques, in particular titrimetric and gravimetric techniques, either in the workplace or on a University placement.
Advantageous:
Proven work experience in a pharmaceutical QC laboratory and experience in instrumental techniques such as AAS, ICP, uv/vis spectrometry, Karl Fischer and polarimetry.
The ideal candidate should have the following qualities and skills:
Highly motivated with an eagerness to learn
Good practical analytical skills
Good written and oral communication skills
Good numerical skills
Good organisation and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Flexible approach, with a can-do attitude and willing to work outside normal hours if necessary
Training provided as necessary
Discretionary bonus scheme
25 days annual leave + bank holidays
