At our state-of-the-art R&D facility in Oxfordshire, we’re building something special. Now, we’re looking to expand our talented Characterisation & Material Science Lab team with a passionateResearch Lab Technicianready to drive innovation at the forefront of battery technology.


🔍 About the Role

As aResearch Lab Technician, you’ll play a vital part in the analysis and understanding of Li-ion battery materials and intermediates. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and electrochemists, you'll apply your skills in wet chemistry and analytical techniques to accelerate material discovery and improve battery performance.

Your work will support both ground-breaking R&D projects and core Service Centre operations, helping to characterise components such as electrolytes, active materials, and battery interfaces.


đŸ§Ș What You’ll Be Doing

  • Material Preparation & Handling– Accurately prepare anode, cathode, and electrolyte formulations while maintaining high standards of safety and quality control.
  • Chemical & Physical Characterisation– Use techniques like ICP, GC-MS, ion chromatography, UV/IR spectroscopy, and advanced titrations to analyse materials.
  • Method Development– Design and optimise test methods for novel materials and ensure efficient digestion/sample prep, especially with HF.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration– Partner with electrochemists and material scientists to support Li-ion cell development and post-mortem analyses.
  • Lab Stewardship– Own equipment calibration, routine checks, and compliance documentation to keep the lab operating at peak performance.


✅ What We’re Looking For

  • Analytical Lab Experience– Proven experience in a wet lab environment, particularly with battery or chemical material characterisation.
  • Technical Expertise– Hands-on experience with ICP, GC-MS, wet chemical analysis, and titration methods.
  • Safety Conscious– Familiarity with lab safety protocols, chemical handling, and hazardous materials such as HF.
  • Team Player– Collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills to work effectively across technical teams.
  • Organised & Methodical– Strong organisational skills with a knack for managing lab inventory and documentation.


🎓Qualifications: Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry or a related field.
