Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Advanced Orthoptist who can deliver core and sub specialty Orthoptic practice alongside providing expertise and leadership at a local child health centre Hackney Arc.

Main duties of the job

The role will be predominantly based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road with Monday at Hackney Arc Child Health Centre (Homerton Hospital community site) on Mondays.

The successful candidate will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team across a range of sub specialty clinics including botulinum toxin, motility, paediatric, adnexal, neurology and orthoptic-optometric led services.

The candidate will be expected to work autonomously in new patient clinics and be experienced to make appropriate onward referrals.

One day a week the successful candidate will support the organisation and delivery of paediatric service at Homerton Hospital Hackney Arc Child Health Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful post holder will:

  • Be responsible for the orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and appropriate management of all patients in their care
  • Be responsible as an independent practitioner for the planning, implementation and monitoring of orthoptic treatment
  • Be responsible for re-referral to specialist services if indicated
  • Collaborate and actively participate in supporting observers, health care professionals and Orthoptic students attending clinical placement
  • Lead clinical service management at Hackney Arc Child Health Centre one day per week
  • Work with service managers to maintain and deliver high quality care as part of an MDT team
  • Actively participate in the monthly service teaching session

Person specificationQualifications and experience

  • HCPC registered
  • Diploma or degree in Orthoptics
  • Experience in orthoptic clinics both orthoptic lead and MDT
  • Experience of working in sub-speciality centre / clinic
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Teaching experience
  • Higher qualifications / working towards higher qualification

Knowledge

  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development clinical experience
  • Experience of clinical governance in relation to own area of practice

Skills and abilities

  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Experience of assessing SEN children and young people
