Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 7 Dietitian to join our friendly team to work as a key, valued and active member of the Diabetes multidisciplinary and dietetic teams. This is permanent part-time post. The applicant must be self-motivated, well-organised and be confident communicator. Informal visits or discussions about the role are very welcome.Based at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton AND Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. Regular travel between sites is required, a car driver and access to a car for work is desirable although there is a bus service between the two sites and both are well situated for public transport.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in a team of advanced diabetes dietitians and receive regular expert clinical supervision. They will see adult patients with Type 1 Diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy in out-patient clinics across two hospital sites. This post offers excellent opportunities to develop working relationships with a wide MDT network including Diabetes Consultants, Diabetes Specialist nurses, Specialist Clinical Psychologists, GPs, and Practice nurses. The post holder will participate in continuing professional development, audit and research within this specialist area to further best practice and personal development. They will also be involved in supporting junior dietitians and students. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Undertake dietetic assessments of referred patients with diabetes taking into account medical, social, cultural and psychological factors. Determine appropriate dietetic treatment and develop treatment plans. Develop expert knowledge of diabetes technologies and provide training to patients, carers and staff.Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve targets and overcome barriers to change including dietary, environmental, social and psychological factors.
Communicate complex information in an understandable form to patients who may have barriers to communication and understanding
Calculate nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of anthropometry, biochemistry, clinical condition and other physical parameters
Work as an integral part of the Diabetes MDT to ensure holistic patient care
