Band 7 | 1.0 WTE | 37 hrs/week

£48,788 - £56,747 Pro-rata per annum

Join our dedicated Pharmacy and Medicines team and play a key role in delivering high-quality care to orthopaedic patients at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic pharmacist to contribute to patient-centred care, medicines optimisation in the perioperative period, and multidisciplinary collaboration in a leading teaching hospital.

About The Role

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is a large teaching hospital known for its excellence across various specialist services. The Orthopaedic Unit provides multidisciplinary care to patients across four trauma wards and an elective ward. As part of our dynamic pharmacy team, you will work closely with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, Ortho-Geriatricians, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Arthroplasty Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Antimicrobial teams.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Delivering high-quality clinical pharmacy services to trauma and elective orthopaedic patients.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of pharmacy services in response to emerging challenges around site capacity and patient flow.
  • Working as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, where pharmacists have an established role in non-medical prescribing.
  • Optimising medications in the peri-operative period and collaborating with the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) team to promote safe transfer of care between care sectors.

About You

  • A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Completion (or equivalent competence) mapped to the Post Registration Foundation Pharmacist Framework.
  • Experience in a patient-focused environment, using knowledge and skills to optimise patient care, reduce the risk of harm from medicines, and promote best clinical practice.
  • Experience of pro-actively influencing prescribing decisions within a clinical setting.
  • A strong alignment with NHS Lothian’s values and a willingness to contribute to our dynamic team.
