DNA analyst & Deputy Laboratory Manager Location:RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsiteparking. Package: £23, 290 - £33, 170 (depending on yoursuitability, qualifications, and level of experience) Workingpattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. Let us introduce the role AWE is currently recruitinga deputy lab manager and DNA analyst for the Radiochemistry Group.This is a unique role ideally suited to an individual with labmanagement experience who can conduct laboratory processes. Thesuitable candidate will be expected to split their time across twoareas of work that are core to the team: 1. Deputy lab manager:Support procurement, organisation and maintenance of theradiochemical science laboratories to enable operations. Effectivestakeholder management is required to successfully deliver in thisrole. 2. DNA Analyst: Become trained to perform DNA analysis in AWElaboratories. Work will include maintenance and development ofthese processes to deliver a robust capability.While previousexperience in these areas is desirable, on the job training will beprovided by experienced colleagues. The Radiochemistry Group withinthe Materials & Analytical Science (MAS) Function supportsmultiple programmes at AWE. This includes Conventional &Nuclear Forensics for our Nuclear Threat Reduction customer whorequire us to develop and maintain a diverse capability.The rolerequires you to provide technical knowledge and expertise in thefield of DNA Science and Radiochemistry to ensure the delivery ofthe programme and external collaborative projects, in a costeffective, quality conscious, safe and secure manner. We are particularly interested in hearing fromcandidates with practical experience in a scientific support rolework and are motivated by furthering their career within atechnical environment. To be considered for the role you should beable to work flexibly within a close team environment and possessgood interpersonal skills. A formal qualification in a scientificdiscipline is desirable although equivalent qualifications orexperience will be considered and not essential for the role.Candidates will have the following skills, experience, andbehaviours:Keen attitude to learning.Demonstrate desire foron-the-job development within a technical field.A strong teamplayer: Experience of working in a team towards commongoals.Delivery of technical objectives to time and quality.Abilityto perform operational safety checks to support the safe andefficient operation in a laboratory environment.Maintain theworkplace in compliance with company processes, standards, andprocedures.Support continuous improvement activities within thelocal area.Willing to work with hazardous chemicals and radioactivematerials.Able to work against a defined operating procedurewithout close supervision.Can competently manage information onbehalf of a team. Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'dlike you to have experience in some of the following:Anunderstanding of working with radioactive material.Experience ofworking to safe systems of work - ideally experience authoring ormanaging associated documentation such as Risk & COSHHassessments.Strong communication skills, both written and oral, andable to communicate information in a clear and concisemanner.Strong IT skills - willingness to contribute to datamanagement and knowledge capture capabilities.Experience orknowledge of working to regulatory requirements.Good knowledge ofForensic Science.Relevant academic or industrial experience inForensic DNA.Experience of working in an ISO17025 accreditedlaboratory.
