Hybrid working: 3 days in the new Salford office, 2 days from home

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

MFK Recruitment has recruited six people into this organisation over the past three and a half years, and all six are still there. That speaks volumes about the culture, leadership, stability and quality of the working environment.

A genomics role with purpose, influence and stability:

This is not a standard programme management role.

The Scientific Programme Manager will play an important scientific role within international genomics quality assurance. You will help ensure that diagnostic laboratories across the world are producing accurate, reliable and clinically appropriate genetic test results.

The organisation’s work supports clinical governance nationally and internationally, helping reduce the risk of patient harm and raising standards in diagnostic genomics.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong genomics background who enjoys scientific programme delivery, data interpretation, quality, collaboration and service improvement.

Why this organisation?

We have worked closely with this organisation for several years and have seen first-hand how well they support, develop and retain their people.

The organisation offers a supportive culture, excellent benefits, flexible working, meaningful work and a strong sense of shared purpose.

The successful Scientific Programme Manager will work on a hybrid basis, spending three days per week in the new Salford office and two days working from home.

The opportunity

As Scientific Programme Manager, you will deliver and support specialist External Quality Assessment schemes in clinical genomics.

You will work closely with senior scientific leaders, operational teams, advisory groups, participant laboratories and external partners. You will be involved in programme delivery, scientific interpretation, quality standards, reporting, stakeholder communication and continuous improvement.

The role will suit someone who wants to remain close to science while taking ownership of important programme delivery within a highly respected, quality-driven environment.

Key responsibilities

You will be involved in:

• Delivering high-quality ISO 17043 accredited genomics-based EQA services

• Managing the logistical delivery of specialist EQA schemes

• Supporting the planning and implementation of EQA scheme activity

• Reviewing and interpreting complex genomic testing data

• Preparing and reviewing scientific reports, commentaries and guidance

• Supporting ISO 17043 accreditation and UKAS quality standards

• Advising laboratories and stakeholders on EQA performance and genomic testing issues

• Contributing to research, publications, audits and best practice guidance

• Working with national and international scientific groups

• Supporting quality management activity, including audit, risk management and continuous improvement

About you

You are likely to come from a background in clinical genomics, molecular diagnostics, hereditary genetics, molecular pathology, EQA or a closely related laboratory medicine environment.

For this Scientific Programme Manager position, you will need:

• Strong scientific knowledge of genomics and diagnostic testing

• Experience interpreting complex laboratory or genomic data

• Experience in EQA, quality assurance, audit, accreditation or regulated laboratory practice

• Confidence communicating with scientists, clinicians, laboratories and external stakeholders

• Project management experience, ideally involving scientific or clinical services

• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail

• The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a wider scientific team

• A commitment to high standards, continuous improvement and scientific accuracy

A relevant degree is essential. A master’s, equivalent experience, professional registration, publications and/or experience in genetic testing, molecular diagnostics or EQA would be beneficial.

What is on offer?

• Salary of £50,169.24

• Hybrid working: 3 days in the new Salford office, 2 days from home

• Excellent benefits package, including a generous pension scheme matched to NHS contribution levels

• 37.5-hour working week

• A highly stable, supportive working culture

• Meaningful scientific work with international reach

• The chance to contribute to quality standards in clinical genomics

• A role where your expertise will be genuinely valued

This Scientific Programme Manager role is an excellent opportunity to combine scientific expertise, programme delivery and international impact within a flexible, supportive and forward-thinking environment

Where to Advertise Biotech Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise biotech jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, academic networks and trade channels that reach biotech R&D and bioprocessing talent. The candidate pool spans life scientists, computational biologists, regulatory specialists and biomanufacturing engineers — each with distinct professional networks and job search behaviours. General job boards reach a broad audience but lack the specificity that biotech professionals expect. Specialist platforms, academic channels and sector-specific communities each serve a different part of the market. This guide, published by BiotechnologyJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise biotech roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Biotech Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Biotech Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and the genomics, cell therapy and AI-driven drug discovery hiring trends shaping UK biotech careers. Biotechnology is creating jobs at a rate that few other sectors can match. New disciplines are emerging from research labs and entering commercial hiring pipelines, existing roles are fragmenting into deeper specialisms, and the technologies driving it all — from AI-assisted drug discovery to next-generation gene editing — are advancing faster than the workforce can keep pace with. For job seekers, this creates an unusual challenge. In most industries, career planning means navigating a relatively familiar landscape and identifying where your skills fit. In biotech, that landscape is being actively redrawn. The roles generating the most hiring activity in 2028 may look quite different from the ones appearing in job adverts today. That's not a reason to feel overwhelmed — it's a reason to get informed. The candidates who thrive in this market aren't always those with the longest CVs or the most letters after their name. They're the ones who understand where the sector is heading: which disciplines are gaining commercial traction, which technologies are driving employer demand, and how the definition of a "biotech job" is expanding well beyond traditional pharmaceuticals and research roles. This article breaks down what the UK biotech jobs market is likely to look like over the next three years — covering emerging job titles, the technologies reshaping hiring, the skills employers are prioritising right now, and how to position your career ahead of the curve rather than behind it.
