R&D Microbiologist - Technical Manager

Location: South Wales | Salary: £competitive | Full-time

We’re supporting a growing, innovation-led business in the animal nutrition sector. With a strong foundation and ambitious plans for the future, they’re now looking for a hands-on R&D Technical Manager to lead the development of their forage product range. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape technical strategy, drive product innovation, and make a real impact within a small but dynamic team.

About the Role

This role offers the chance to take ownership of a key product area within the company’s R&D portfolio. You’ll provide technical leadership, support cross-functional teams, and oversee development projects from concept to validation. There’s also scope to contribute to product strategy, support customer-facing teams, and grow external collaborations, including academia.

Key Responsibilities

Lead technical development and continuous improvement of the forage product portfolio.

Guide internal teams and provide technical training and support to regional specialists.

Manage and contribute to research projects, trials, and product validation.

Maintain and develop product specifications in line with regulatory and quality standards.

Collaborate with operations, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve performance issues and ensure product consistency.

Support marketing and sales with technical insights and materials.

Represent the business at relevant conferences and industry events to maintain visibility and professional development.

What We’re Looking For

A degree in microbiology, biological sciences, animal science or a related field (PhD preferred but not essential).

Experience in scientific research and experimental design.

An understanding of forage conservation or ruminant nutrition is desirable.

Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex science into practical applications.

A proactive and collaborative mindset, with the ability to lead and influence across teams.
