ROLE OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Manager to join a leading biologics development organisation based in a science-driven environment. This role offers a unique chance to provide high-level technical leadership and strategic direction within a biologics-focused setting, supporting innovative programmes of work that push the boundaries of bioprocessing and biologics manufacturing.

Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to manage a multidisciplinary team responsible for upstream biologics production, ensuring delivery of complex projects and continuous process improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of biologics development by translating technical breakthroughs into operational success, all while fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your duties as the Senior Technical Manager will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

Lead and direct the Synthetic and Mammalian Upstream Team, ensuring the effective delivery of a diverse project portfolio aligned with the organisation’s strategic goals.

Act as the technical expert and project lead on complex biologics manufacturing projects, including expression system development, process validation, and scale-up/down activities.

Manage, develop, and motivate a team of scientists and engineers, setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring their continuous technical and professional growth.

Maintain and ensure compliance with all relevant SHE, GMP, Data Integrity, and quality standards, embedding best practices across all activities.

Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, research organisations, and industry partners to facilitate collaborations, knowledge exchange, and business development opportunities.

Act as a primary technical contact for clients and stakeholders during project delivery, providing expert advice and innovative solutions.

Stay abreast of external developments in bioprocessing, gene and cell therapy technologies, and legislative changes, integrating new knowledge into team practices.

Contribute to bid preparation and technical proposals, leveraging deep expertise to develop compelling value propositions.

Ensure accurate documentation of technical data, methodologies, and decision-making processes in adherence to industry standards.ROLE REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Senior Technical Manager, we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

A Degree or higher level in a Scientific discipline (e.g., Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biological Sciences) plus relevant senior research or industrial experience.

Proven expertise in upstream bioprocessing for biologics, including mammalian expression systems (such as CHO and HEK293) and recombinant protein production.

Extensive practical experience with bioreactor scale-up, process optimization, and integrating analytical techniques like qPCR, SDS-PAGE, and ELISAs.

Demonstrable leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration, and developing talent.

Knowledge of GMP requirements for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and Data Integrity standards.

Experience with high throughput bioreactor platforms and eukaryotic gene design, cloning, and transfection techniques.WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
