Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Biomedical Scientist (Band 5/6) to join their laboratory team in Milton Keynes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services within a regulated clinical laboratory. You'll play a vital role in performing analytical testing, ensuring accurate and timely results that support clinical decision-making and excellent patient care.

Key Duties

Perform analytical testing, validation, and processing of patient samples.

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

Process urgent, routine, and specialist investigations within agreed turnaround times.

Review and authorise results in accordance with SOPs, competency requirements, and quality standards.

Participate in Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) programmes.

Maintain compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS, and laboratory quality standards.

Ensure accurate record-keeping and full sample traceability.

Work closely with clinicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to support patient care.

Requirements

Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.

HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

IBMS-accredited degree.

Experience installing and validating analysers, including Beckman Coulter DXI9000 or equivalent.

Previous experience within a clinical pathology or diagnostic laboratory.

Knowledge of laboratory testing processes and quality standards.

Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Understanding of laboratory quality management systems and accreditation requirements.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Strong communication, teamwork, and IT skills.
