Analytical Chemist

Location: Haverhill, Suffolk


An established UKAS analytical organisation specialising in environmental testing is currently seeking an experienced analytical chemist to join their dedicated laboratory team. The analytical chemist will have with strong hands on experience in GC-MS / ICP-MS.


Responsibilities:

Prepare and process environmental samples according to work schedules.


Generate accurate, timely analytical data in line with client expectations and UKAS standards.
Maintain and update quality control and sample data, ensuring compliance with internal quality systems.
Carry out routine maintenance and calibration of GC-MS instruments and other lab equipment, ensuring all instruments are kept clean and fully operational.
Manage stocks of reagents and standards, ensuring correct storage and labelling.
Communicate effectively with the Divisional Manager regarding any turnaround challenges or resource needs. Work professionally and safely, promoting good practice within the team.
Maintain a clean, organised laboratory environment.
Support colleagues where needed and ensure samples are stored correctly post-analysis.
Uphold strict confidentiality and comply with all Health & Safety and ISO standards.

About You:

Degree, HNC, or equivalent experience in a scientific discipline.


3–5 years’ relevant experience in GC-MS analysis within environmental or related testing.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Practical knowledge of instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
Confident working to UKAS or similar accredited standards.
PC literate with good data handling skills.

Salary:

Salary (£28,000 - £32,000 dependent upon experience)
